Farrakhan’s Viral de facto Endorsement of Trump Resurfaces, Undermining Kamala Harris’s 2024 Appeal
A newly viral video of Louis Farrakhan’s remarks about Donald Trump—originally recorded between 2016 and 2020—amounts to a de facto endorsement of the former president. In the clip, Farrakhan praises Trump as an “anomaly” who is actively dismantling powerful institutions that, in Farrakhan’s view, have historically stifled Black progress. His comments align with Trump’s attacks on the media, FBI, and Department of Justice, which Farrakhan frames as enemies of Black leaders, referencing figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Farrakhan’s message unmistakably signals support for Trump’s combative approach to governance. As the video spreads rapidly online, it poses a direct threat to Kamala Harris’s outreach efforts among Black and Muslim voters, both of which are crucial for the Democratic ticket.
Farrakhan’s remarks are gaining traction among segments of the African American community who are drawn to Trump’s anti-establishment rhetoric. Farrakhan highlights how Trump “destroys every enemy of our rise,” casting Trump as a disruptive force battling the very institutions that many believe have systematically marginalized Black Americans. With Black men increasingly warming to Trump (currently polling at 24% which if this holds, would be the highest since Barry Goldwater) , this renewed spotlight on Farrakhan’s message gives Trump additional “street cred” among voters seeking alternatives to the Democratic Party. Trump’s 2020 gains with Black women, where he doubled his support from 2016, suggest a growing openness to Trump’s message, and recent polling indicates that these numbers are likely to improve further in 2024.
Kamala Harris continues to struggle with key voter demographics. Many Black men remain skeptical of her authenticity, viewing her mixed heritage and prosecutorial background as barriers to true representation of their interests. This perception poses a critical problem for Harris in battleground states, where even small shifts in the Black vote could prove decisive. Farrakhan’s implicit endorsement of Trump exacerbates this challenge, reinforcing Trump’s appeal as a disruptor to voters frustrated with the status quo.
Meanwhile, Harris also faces backlash within the Muslim community, particularly in swing states like Michigan and Minnesota. Discontent with the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of Middle Eastern issues—especially the Israel-Palestine conflict—has eroded trust among Arab American and Muslim voters. Polls now show that Arab Americans are nearly evenly split between Trump and Harris, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party’s policies. Some Muslim and Arab groups have even begun endorsing Trump or withholding support from Democrats, adding to Harris’s difficulties in rallying these voters.
With Farrakhan’s words now spreading across social media, Trump stands to gain further ground among African Americans and Muslims. This viral moment lends Trump increased legitimacy and bolsters his image as an outsider challenging entrenched political interests—a narrative that resonates deeply with disillusioned voters. For Harris, who is already struggling to solidify support among key constituencies, the timing of this resurgence could have significant electoral consequences, particularly in swing states where small shifts in turnout could swing the outcome.
While we recognize the impact of Farrakhan’s remarks, we emphatically disagree with nearly everything he stands for, especially his stance on the Person of Jesus Christ. We affirm that Jesus is 100% God and 100% Man, who came to rescue His own by dying on the cross for our sins and rising from the dead. He will return again to complete His redemptive mission.
